How to Claim and Set Up a Google Business

If you haven't recently had to get a business verified on Google, you might not be aware that this can be frustrating now with the new video verification process.

BUT, not to worry. You can do this.

In the old days, Google would send a postcard to the address, maybe call or text a verification code, and then you put the code in and you were good to go.

Now, Google is mostly making you use a video for verification purposes.

To start the Google Business Verification:

Step 1

Go to Google My Business https://www.google.com/business/ and find the Business (you must have owner/admin access)

• IF you haven't already claimed or started the process of setting up your GMB, start there

• Click MANAGE NOW

• If not logged in, you will need to login using your gmail

• TIP: After initial set up whether on a computer or cell, you may want to do the verication on your phone as that is where the video will be.

• Click 'GET VERIFIED' - see below

Go through the steps and start by adding your address and other information.

Then click 'NEXT' and go through the process.

• If you do the verification from a computer, you will then scan a QR code with your cell phone from the screen of your computer, to then start videoing.

Once you start videoing, make sure that EVERYTHING is covered in the one video recording. You CANNOT edit or splice the video together. If you mess up, then you will start the video again.

Click to confirm and save.

Once it is submitted, it might take several days before approved or rejected. In the meantime, be sure to check it occassionally to make sure that it hasn't been rejected.

IF rejected, you will need to re-submit the video.
